SHOT PEENING

Daimond Blast Corporation Blasting, shot peening, deburring specialists

Shot peening is a cold-working process in which the surface of a part is bombarded with small spherical media called shot. Although shot peening is often confused with blasting, the two processes have very different effects. Blasting is used primarily to rid metals of corrosion and rust, while shot peening is used to work-harden metal and to increase its fatigue strength.
Shot Peening Can Accomplish
Depending on the specific part, shot peening can accomplish the following:

• Increases fatigue strength
• Prevents cracking due to wear, corrosion and stress
• Prevents fretting and galling

Typical parts that require shot peening include gears, springs, valves, blades, discs and wire forms.
